Alvaro is half-German and half-Spanish. His father's name is Martin Tauchert and he's German, although he was born in Indonesia. His mother's name is Leticia Soler De Bièvre, and she's half Spanish and half Belgian. A typically Spanish characteristic of Alvaro is that he can't live without the sun, and he's a passionate and sensitive person. A typically German characteristic of his is that he's very punctual, perfectionist, hard-working and very reliable; he doesn't break promises and you can trust on him. In several interviews, Alvaro said that he feels more Spanish than German; Spain is much closer to his heart than Germany, because it's there where he spent big part of his youth, and where his family and friends live.
Alvaro is in a relationship; he has given his heart to Melanie Kroll, a beautiful German model, born in December 1997 in Potsdam. Melanie works for several modelling agencies (Louisa Models in Germany, Dominique Models in France, and Blow Models in Spain) and also founded her own modelling agency, Four One. Alvaro and Melanie Kroll have been a couple since October 2021, when they got to know each other in Berlin, and they are very happy together. They love each other so much, that they got engaged on August 1st 2022 at the Costa Brava, and after 9 months of engagement, they got married on May 23rd 2023 in Berlin. The civil wedding ceremony took place on May 23rd, while the three-day wedding party was held in Melanie's native town of Potsdam in June. Before he fell in love with Melanie, Alvaro dated Spanish singer-songwriter Sofia Ellar for five years, from early 2016 until March 2021, when they announced the end of their relationship.
Alvaro Soler studied industrial engineering and design at the Elisava, or the Escuela Universitaria de Diseño e Ingeniería (University School of Design and Engineering) in Barcelona. He chose to do these studies, because he wanted to become a car designer. His favorite subjects at university were packaging, graphic design and materials science. For his bachelor's thesis, Alvaro had to make a design for the electric, modern version of a DeLorean that that runs on electricity for 24 hours. He considered doing a Master's year in the German town of Pforzheim, but in the end, he chose to concentrate on music, and to try to make a living as a musician. In July 2013, one month after finishing his studies at Elisava, Alvaro signed a contract as a songwriter with Sony ATV, one and a half year before he went to Berlin and started his career as a solo artist, and subsequently became one of the most successful singers in the world.
Alvaro lives in a cosy apartment in Friedrichshain, a neighbourhood in Berlin. He's been living there since January 2021. In 2023, his wife Melanie moved in to his apartment. Before he shared an apartment with his brother Greg in the same neighbourhood, where they moved in at the beginning of 2019 and lived until December 2020. Before that, Alvaro shared an apartment in Neukölln with a room mate, who was an old classmate from the German school in Tokyo. Alvaro is a very versatile person who has plenty of hobbies, and in particular, he likes windsurfing, wakeboarding, skate-boarding, longboarding, snowboarding, biking, karting with friends, drawing and painting, and creating and building things like lamps, decoration and furniture with cardboard, wood and recycled materials. In his free time, Alvaro also likes cooking and he enjoys watching TV series on Netflix. Some of his favorites are Narcos and Casa de Papel. Another hobby of his is doing meditation, because it relaxes him, and it serves for him as a kind of therapy.
During Covid in 2020, Alvaro did workout 4 times a week, with the help of a personal trainer called Pelayo. The workout sessions happened through zoom, Alvaro being in Madrid, and Pelayo in Tenerife. Nowadays, Alvaro tries to do workout as many times a week as possible, and he prefers going to the gym rather than doing workout at home. When he's in Barcelona, Alvaro likes it to go biking, and then he usually climbs up the Tibidabo, the highest hill in Barcelona, and after reaching the top, he enjoys the beautiful sight of the entire city and its surroundings.

Alvaro has two cars; an oldtimer Mercedes 230 CE and an oldtimer Porsche 911 SC from 1983. He prefers oldtimers to new cars. As for his oldtimer Porsche 911 SC, he saved it from the scrapheap, and he repaired it at a garage in Madrid, by ordering new car parts, like a new engine, new brakes, and new wheels. Alvaro drives his 2 cars, his oldtimer Mercedes and oldtimer Porsche, in Barcelona, while in Berlin, he doesn't drive any car of his own, because of the traffic in the German capital. In Berlin, Alvaro opts for riding a bike, riding a scooter or doing car sharing, instead of driving his own car.
As a kid, Alvaro dreamed of being a Formula 1 racer, a famous bicycle racer or a designer of video games.
Alvaro has a preference for second-hand clothes; he loves wearing vintage shirts and vintage jackets he buys in vintage clothes stores. His predilection for vintages clothes originated from a concert experience in Bilbao, where he disguised in second-hand clothes in order not to be recognized.

Alvaro loves it to collect vintage instruments, which he uses to record his albums. He usually buys them in the countries he travels to when touring or doing promo. For example, he bought a Colombian flute, called 'gaita colombiana' when he visited Bogota in October 2016, and on his visit to Chile in December 2019, Alvaro bought a 'cuatro venezolano', which is a Venezuelan string instrument, and a 'charango', another traditional Latin-American string instrument that is not known in Europe. On his visit to Mexico City the same month, he bought lots of Mexican percussion instruments and small Mexican trumpets. In 2022, Alvaro bought a QChord on E-bay, which is a version of the Japanese omnichord. He used this QChord to record his single Muero.
Alvaro has a predilection for old furniture. He has a lot of old furniture at his home in Berlin, such as a Danish commode from the seventies and a 110-year old piano he inherited from a family from Bielefeld.
Alvaro decorated, furnished and organized his apartment in Berlin all by himself, in spite of his manager Andy's advice to pay for someone to decorate his apartment. In his living room, he has a beautiful painting with lots of colors he painted at a friend's house.
Alvaro owns a small garden at the terrace of his apartment in Berlin, where he grows plants like oleander, herbs such as thyme and rosemary, and vegetables such as tomatoes and aubergines.

One of Alvaro's best, most memorable concert experiences is when he performed at the Austrian Donauinselfest hosted by Ö3 Hitradio in Vienna on the 23rd of June 2017. Alvaro was feeling quite sick that day, and he even fainted on the plane on his way to Vienna. Just before it was his turn to perform at the Donauinselfest, Alvaro was suffering a bad headache,
but as soon as he went onto stage, he forgot about that, because he received a huge charge of energy from the audience who were singing along to his songs. Thanks to this positive energy in the interaction with his audience, Alvaro quickly recovered and delivered a great concert, and he even lived one of the best experiences he ever had on stage. Another beautiful, exceptional concert experience was his free show in Trieste on the 1st of October 2016
Alvaro's favorite tour ritual is the following one: just before every show he and his band and crew members form a circle and give a each other a group hug, and they exchange impressions and feelings of the past day, and encourage each other before going onto stage.
In March 2020, Alvaro travelled to Kenya with the charity World Vision Germany, where he visited the local populations in Marsabit and Laisamis, two regions in Kenya struck by constant drought.

En lo que se refiere a su antiguo Porsche 911 SC, lo salvó de la chatarra, y le dio nueva vida. Reparó el vehículo en un taller en Madrid, encargando nuevas piezas, como nuevo motor, frenos, nueva suspensión y nuevos neumáticos. Álvaro conduce estos 2 coches, su antiguo Mercedes y su antiguo Porsche, en Barcelona, mientras que en Berlín, no conduce coche propio por el ajetreado tráfico en la metrópolis. A la hora de desplazarse en Berlín, Álvaro opta por la bici, la motocicleta o el car sharing, en vez de utilizar su propio coche.

Álvaro prefiere llevar ropa de segunda mano; lleva muchísimas camisetas y chaquetas vintage que suele comprar en tiendas de ropa de segunda mano. Su predilección por la ropa vintage empezó con un concierto en Bilbao, para el cual se disfrazó con prendas de segunda mano, con el objetivo de no ser reconocido en el público.
A Álvaro le encanta llevar muchas pulseras y collares que suele comprar en mercados artesanales y en pequeñas tiendas en Berlín.
A Álvaro le encanta coleccionar instrumentos vintage, los cuales utiliza para grabar sus álbumes. Estos instrumentos vintage los suele comprar en sus viajes a países lejanos durante sus giras de conciertos y de promoción. Por ejemplo, compró una especie de flauta colombiana, llamada 'gaita colombiana' al visitar Bogota en octubre de 2016, y durante su visita a Chile en diciembre de 2019, se proporcionó un 'cuatro venezolano', que es un instrumento de cuerda típico de Venezuela, además de un 'charango', otro instrumento de cuerda latinoamericano que no se conoce en Europa. Al visitar el mismo mes la Ciudad de México, se compró muchos instrumentos de percusión mexicanos, así como algunas pequeñas trompetas mexicanas. En el 2022, Álvaro encargó en E-bay un QChord, un instrumento electrónico de origen japonés parecido al omnichord. Este QChord, lo utilizó entre otros instrumentos para grabar los sonidos de su sencillo Muero.
Álvaro siente una predilección por los muebles antiguos. En su casa posee muchos muebles antiguos, como una cómoda danesa de los años setenta y un piano vintage con 110 años de edad heredado de una familia de Bielefeld.
Álvaro organizó, amuebló y pintó su piso en Berlín completamente solo, aunque su representante Andy le aconsejó pagar a un profesional para que le pintara el piso. En su sala de estar, Álvaro tiene un bonito cuadro de muchos colores que él pintó en casa de un amigo.
En la terraza de su piso en Berlín, Álvaro tiene un pequeño jardín, donde cultiva plantas como el laurel de flor, especias como el tomillo y el romero, y verduras como tomates y berenjenas.
Los lugares que más le gusta frecuentar en Berlín, son el Parque Treptower, los parques de calistenia, los cines al aire libre , y el Spree, uno de los ríos principales de Berlín, donde le gusta pasear en barco pequeño.

Sus padres siempre ponían en el coche discos de Phil Collins y Elton John, y Álvaro se dejaba llevar por sus canciones, mientras contemplaba por la ventana los paisajes, una sensación que le hacía sentirse tranquilo y relajado.

Un concierto que recordará siempre es cuando tocó con su banda en el evento musical austriaco Donauinselfest apadrinado
por la emisora Ö3 Hitradio en Viena el 23 de junio de 2017. Lamentablemente, Álvaro se encontraba enfermo ese día, e incluso se desmayó en el avión de camino a Viena. Justo antes de que le tocara a él cantar en el evento Donauinselfest, Álvaro sufría fuertes dolores de cabeza. No obstante, al momento de subir al escenario, dejó de sentir dolores y malestar físico, porque recibía una gran carga de energía de su público que cantaba con sus canciones. Gracias a esta energía positiva en la interacción con su público, Álvaro se recuperó rápidamente, y entregó un gran concierto, y vivió una de las mejores experiencias que haya tenido arriba de un escenario. Otro concierto excepcional que siempre llevará en sus recuerdos fue su recital en Trieste del 1 de octubre de 2016.
Su ritual de gira favorita es la siguiente: con cada concierto, justo antes de subir al escenario, Álvaro y sus músicos forman un círculo, y se dan un largo abrazo de grupo. Entre todos, intercambian impresiones y sentimientos del pasado día, y se animan el uno al otro antes de tocar.
En marzo de 2020, Álvaro viajó a Kenia, en un proyecto de la ONG World Vision Alemania, donde visitó a la población local de las regiones Marsabit y Laisamis, afectada mucho por la hambruna y por la sequía constante.
